    CEO

    Atul is a former operator and consultant with a passion for energy efficiency. He worked for ExxonMobil driving significant operational, energy, and EHS (Environmental, Safety, & Health) improvements as an engineer, investment planner, and section head. At Bain, he worked on a major improvement initiative at a national energy efficiency program provider for utilities.

    He received his MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School and BS in Chemical Engineering with High Distinction from the University of Virginia

  • Lindsay Spatz

    Director of Operations & Compliance

    Lindsay has 18+ years of project management, utility allowance, energy, and affordable housing experience. She oversees project work plan development, resource allocation, scheduling, and budgets. Lindsay also manages quality control for deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and adherence to contractual obligations

  • Aliona Gorea, CPA

    Controller and CFO

    Aliona has extensive experience in Accounting, Auditing, Tax and Treasury both in Europe and in the United States. She has worked with small, medium, and large international corporations—including facilitating M&A, and serving in advisory roles. Aliona joined Zappling with aspirations in helping it achieve a premier role in the industry. She is an active CPA and is a graduate of George Mason University

  • Paul Crumpler PE, CEM, CMVP, CDSM

    Head of Engineering

    Paul is a licensed mechanical engineer with 30+ years of experience in energy management, process efficiency, commissioning, retro- commissioning and pollution prevention; and thirteen years of experience in machine design, manufacturing processes, and plant operation. He has served as a Director and energy team leader in engineering firms and large campus organizations. Paul received his Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering, from Georgia Tech

  • Carl Barth

    CTO

    Carl is a highly experienced software engineer and one of original architects behind the UAPro/UAPro+ platform. He has developed enterprise level web applications targeting Facility M&V services (Measurement and Verification), Engineered Utility Allowance Calculations, and Building data modeling and analytics.

    He holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Virginia

  • John (J.D.) Best, PE, BCxP, BEMP

    Sr. Energy Reviewer

    J.D. Best, PE, is a licensed professional engineer as well as an ASHRAE-certified Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) and Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP). In addition to energy consulting, Mr. Best has designed and commissioned hundreds of complex buildings. A mechanical engineering graduate of North Carolina State University, he has worked for over twenty years for a variety of clients nationwide, serving as an energy consultant, mechanical design engineer, installation contractor, and project manager.

In this role, he oversees energy and water conservation audits, energy modeling and simulation, utility use audits, physical needs and green physical needs assessments, commissioning (including LEED commissioning), measurement and verification (M&V), energy master planning, and utility allowance calculations. Bob has worked in the energy consulting field for more than 45 years

With extensive experience starting and growing global businesses in information technology and infrastructure, she is passionate about women empowerment and actively involved in social causes related to education. She is currently the CEO of Allwyn Corporation and Founder of Next Step Foundation.

    Dr. Hargrove is an entrepreneur, medical professional, and chemical engineer. He has worked as a process engineer designing chemical plants and opened an office for Aspen Technology providing chemical process simulation software and services to various chemical plants. He decided to retire from engineering in 2004 and pursue a career in dentistry. He acquired and merged 3 dental practices from 2008 to 2010 successful growing revenues and the patient base.
